Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Elder Anderson, age 88 of Lineville, will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Ashland with Bro. Wayne Johnson, Bro. Richie Farrow, and Bro. Brandon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Clay County Memory Gardens in Ashland.
Mrs. Anderson passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston. She was born in Pulaski, Tennessee on September 1, 1936, to parents Charles Thomas Elder Sr. and Clara Mac Hargrove Elder. Her family moved to Clay County where she has been a life- long member of the community. She was a Clay County High School graduate, class of 1954. After high school, she started working at Higgins Slacks in Lineville where she met Vernon James “Tank” Anderson. They went on to marry on December 19, 1959. They were married for 41 years until his passing in April of 2001. Mrs. Anderson worked for various manufacturing companies such as: Southland and Russell Mills. She owned and operated Ingram’s Clothing in Lineville and The Clothes Corner in Ashland from the 1970’s until the mid 1980’s when she closed her business in Ashland to help care for her father. She later worked alongside her husband with his business Anderson Trucking. After his passing, she continued running the business with her son up until a few years ago.
Mrs. Anderson was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with, and caring for, her family. She enjoyed cooking and hosting holiday celebrations at her home for her family. No one could beat Mawmaw’s cooking! She loved to go on shopping and beach trips with her girls. She could always be found collecting seashells along the beach. Mrs. Anderson loved being outdoors; You would often see her working in her yard, tending to her
garden and flowers, and helping her husband and son on the farm. She especially loved planting sunflowers for her granddaughters to see. She was, and had always been, very independent and wanted to do for others instead of herself. Mrs. Anderson became a Christian alongside her mother at Olive Branch Baptist Church where she had been a life-long member and served for many years. She loved the Lord and told her family that she was ready because she knew where she was going. She will forever love her family to the moon and back.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her son, Russell Anderson (Rita) of Lineville; her daughter, April Saxon (Harold) of Ashland; four grandchildren: Jonathan Saxon of Lineville, Brooke Chappell (Jared) of Lineville, Emily Sheppard (Aaron) of Wedowee, and Shelby Duck (Logan) of Ashland; two great-grandchildren: Bain Saxon and Sarah Whitley Chappell “Mawmaw’s Tinkerbell”; brother-in-law, Truman Anderson (Janet) of Hixson, Tennessee; furry sidekick, Smokey; plus a large extended family and friends.
