Paul Lamar Sosebee Sr., 68, of Dayton, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Miami Valley Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Paul was born on July 11, 1956, in Clarkesville, Georgia, to the late James Lee Sosebee Sr. and his devoted mother, the late Morene Sosebee. He was also preceded in death by his brothers George Sutton, Greg Wilmont and his beloved grandmother, Jenny Williams.
A true “techie” at heart, Paul had a remarkable ability to solve problems and create solutions. Throughout his career as a Systems Analyst, he was known for his ingenuity, including developing methods to help people cut the cord from cable providers — a passion project he was proud of. Paul proudly served his country as an infantry soldier in the armed forces. He was a man of many talents; a golfer, a musician, an avid reader, an entrepreneur, and a proud gardener who found joy working in the yard during the summer months.
Paul was a devoted family man who would do anything for those he loved. Brilliant in his ability to “figure things out,” he approached life with curiosity, creativity, and kindness. His love for music ran deep — he played the bass guitar and piano and found pure joy in simply playing for the love of it. He cherished road trips, exploring the countryside, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of artists and songs across many genres. Paul’s love for music often filled the air, with him singing along and blasting his radio whenever a favorite song played.
His incredible smile could light up any room. Paul was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend, and his generosity, warmth, and unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on everyone privileged to know him. His light will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
Paul is survived by his wife, soulmate, and loving caregiver, Karen Franklin Sosebee; his son, Paul Sosebee Jr.; his daughter, Kisa Sosebee; his bonus son, DaJuan Franklin; his devoted brother, James Lee Sosebee Jr. (Sonia); his sister, Valerie (Nadir); his brother, Gary (Letitia); and devoted nephews Craig (Angela) and Mike (Jessica). He is also lovingly remembered by his great-nieces (JeNae, Jaedyn, Georgia, Mia, Payton, & Rose) and nephews (Javijon & Miles), his devoted cousin Victor Sosebee, and dear friends Willie “Bimp” Beard, George Garnes, Willie Ellis, Robert Marcus, Ozell Early, Barry Stiles, Kim Martin, Dale Earley, Perry Roseman, and Enakshi — all of whom uplifted him throughout his hospital stay.
Cremation has been chosen. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third Street, Dayton, Ohio.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will follow on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum. Please save the date as we gather to honor and celebrate Paul’s extraordinary life.
