Her Legacy… Joyce Elaine Gaylord, 81, passed away April 26, 2025.  She was born on February 6, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan to Norman Carpenter and Shirley (Hodgson) Carpenter. Joyce married the love of her life, Gary Gaylord, in 1972, in Westland, Michigan. Joyce had an exemplary career as an educator at Stevenson Middle School, Marshall Middle School and John Glen High School in Westland, Michigan for over 30 years. She enriched many lives and won hearts with her kindness, love, faith and support. Joyce loved music and played the keyboard and accordion. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, drawing, reading books, gardening and yardwork. Joyce was outgoing and helpful and always put everyone before herself. She was a lot of fun, and loved to laugh and share her faith. Joyce’s life revolved around her family, she would do anything for her children and grandchildren, they were her entire world. Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Her Family… Joyce will be missed by her husband, Gary Gaylord; her daughter, Lauri (Stephen) Mezzomo; brother, Ronald (Nancy) Carpenter; granddaughters, Brooke Mezzomo, Isabelle Mezzomo; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Shirley Carpenter; and daughter, Julie Gaylord.

Her Farewell… Joyce’s family and friends will gather Monday, May 12, 2025, from 10:00AM-11:00AM, at Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Brighton, Michigan. Her Community Farewell will follow at 11:00AM. Pastor Arthur Hunt will serve as celebrant. Memorial contributions are suggested to Livingston County Humane Society or Gideon’s International.
