QUARMBY, Barbara Aileen DeVere (nee Streadwick) – passed away peacefully at Woodlands of Sunset on Sunday, April 27, 2025 in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Michael John Quarmby (2006). Loving mother of Susan Crook (Greg) and Ian Quarmby (Judy). Cherished grandmother of Jessica Mantesso, Kelly Ashley (Pat), Chelsea Pecoraro (Brett) and Quin Quarmby and great grandmother of Tyson, Ava, Taylor and Brock. Dear sister of Gordon Streadwick, Nigel Lawrence (Mariana) and June Ahwee (late John). Predeceased by her parents Kenneth Streadwick and Althea Lawrence, brother Eric Streadwick, brother-in-law Ian Bishop (Gwynne) and sister-in-law Maureen Viney. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Barbara was born in Jamaica, when she was 19 she left on a banana boat and went to England where she trained in a 4-year Nursing Degree program as a Registered Nurse and Midwife at Hammersmith Hospital in London. Barbara came to Canada in 1955 and worked at the Toronto General Hospital, she was married in 1956 and with her husband came to Welland where she had a 33-year career as a RN at the Riverside Annex and Welland Hospital. Special thanks to everyone at Woodlands of Sunset for the dedicated care given to our mother. The family will receive their friends at the H. L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon followed by a service to celebrate her life in the Cudney Chapel at 12 noon.
