Sylvia H. Shores, loving and devoted wife of Murray L. Shores, passed away on April 27, 2025 at her home.
Born July 25, 1934, she was the daughter of Edgar and Marguerite Hastings of Fruitland, MD.
Sylvia graduated from WiHi and after a number of years decided to take up nursing. After getting her nursing license, she was employed by Peninsula Regional Medical Center, now Tidal Health. She worked in the mother baby department until she retired after 35 years. It was her passion and she loved it very much. Many times when out for dinner or just shopping, patients would come up to her and say you took care of my child and that made her eyes gleam with pride. Sylvia loved her church, Saint John's United Methodist Church of Fruitland where she joined at the age of 10 and continued her service until her passing. She took great pride and delight telling everyone that she had been a member since she was 10 years old. It was always number one in her life reading and praying to God was an every morning tradition. Sylvia enjoyed life with her husband, they took many trips together. She loved Florida and Disney World. She always said it was a "must trip". She loved meeting with the cartoon characters and the crowds.
Sylvia loved to collect stuffed bears and had around 800. She had bears of all shapes and sizes. An annual trip to the Boyd's Bear factory in Gettysburg was a must. Always leaving with new seasonal bears. Her grand outing was her trip with her husband, Murray, to Australia where she played with baby kangaroos and koala bears. I think they loved her as much as she loved them!
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 46 years, Murray L. Shores, a son, Danny Jones (Dianne) of Camden, DE, a very caring stepson and daughter in law, Steve and Sherri Shores of Salisbury, MD, a devoted nephew, Rev. Dr. Rick Vance of Hendersonville, TN, a special niece, Lori Laird (Tommy), grandsons, Josh Shores (Laura), Caleb Shores (Amber), and Daniel Jones, and three great grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Marguerite Hastings, sister and brother in law, Ruth and Jack Fogel, a son, David Jones, a niece and nephew, Susan and Tom Baber, and a favorite nephew, Eddie Vance.
