Joanna Roberta Maes, 70 of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away April 27, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Mrs. Maes was born October 26, 1954 to Jose Gurule and Orlinda Chavez in Montrose, Colorado. 

A memorial service in honor of Joanna will be held on Friday, May 09, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. 

Joanna is survived by her one daughter: Rebecca Gomez (Jeff) of Hobbs. Four sons: Gabriel Maes (Raquel) of Hobbs. Frankie Gomez and wife Misty of Arizona. Josh Gomez and wife Shannon of Colorado. Dominic Maes and wife Shelly of California. Seven sisters: Rosalie Luna of Colorado. MaryAnn Garcia and Linda Salazar of Farmington, New Mexico. Emily Bernal of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Pauline Horrcles of Missouri. Theresa Hoffman and Emily Ziegler both of Vernal, Utah. Three brothers: Chris Salazar of Colorado. Larry Gurule of Nevada. TJ Gurule of Utah. 24 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. 

Joanna was preceded in death by her husband Pablo Maes. Parents: Jose Gurule and Joe and Orlinda Salazar. Four sisters: Mary Bernal, Teresa Agurrie, Helen Martinez, and Josie Montano. Two brothers: Tony Chacon and Tommy Gurule. Granddaughter: Leeanne Simon. 

Joanna delighted in various hobbies and pursuits, such as crafting, dancing, especially the electric slide, singing, cooking her favorite dishes smothered burritos, raviolis, and zealously supporting the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her family, including her children, grandchildren, and faithful dog Gypsy, held a special place in her heart. Joanna fought a courageous battle to the very end and her memory will be warmly cherished and sincerely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services are under the direction of Calvary Memorial Funeral Home of Hobbs, New Mexico.
