Mildred Crabtree Underwood Obituary

Mildred Crabtree Underwood, 88, of Semora, died peacefully at her home Sunday, April 27, 2025. Born in Bushy Fork, Mrs. Underwood was the daughter of the late Melvin Roosevelt and Myrtle Chatham Crabtree and wife of the late Philmon Horace Underwood. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Wilmer "Buddy" Mathews and Michael Dewayne Mathews, two step-sons and three step-daughters. Mrs. Underwood was a homemaker and a member of McGhee's Mill Baptist Church.


Mrs. Underwood is survived by her daughter, Wanda Mathews Birch (Johnny), of Roxboro; her step-son, Robbie Underwood (Brenda), of New Market, TN; her sister, Muriel Dillon; her daughter-in-law, Christine Mathews, of Dandridge, TN; eight grandchildren, Doug W. Reynolds, of Jacksonville, Raven Barefoot (Max), of Hurdle Mills, Kelsey McMahon (Jeff) and Kylie Mathews, all of Dandridge, TN, Brad Gass, of New Market, TN, Jeremy Shelton, Lean Shelton and Austin Underwood; twenty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.


Graveside services will be held 3PM Thursday at McGhee's Mill Baptist Church by the Pastor Frankie Reaves.


Pallbearers will be Bill Smith, Elijah Smith, Elisha Smith and Donnie Dillon.


The family would like to thank her caregivers Candis Harris, Heidi Smith and Nicky Carver for the care they they provided, along with the Person Memorial Hospital nurses and CNA's. A special thank you to Darlene Ellis for being her daughter's solid rock.
