Jane Frances Scholten Obituary

Jane Frances Scholten, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at the Christian Health Care Center. Jane was born to Jim and Fannie Bajema of Lynden on Christmas Eve 1937. She grew up on a farm on Trapline Road along with her siblings Sherm, Sylvia and Glen. Jane attended Lynden Christian School and after graduating she bravely took the train all alone to Michigan to attend Calvin College. After earning her teaching degree, she returned to Lynden and married her high school sweetheart Ron. In the early years she taught school at Ebenezer Christian. After starting a family, she quit teaching to be a homemaker. Jane and Ron had 3 children, Jeff, Debbie and Julie. They enjoyed many family boating trips in the San Juans with friends where a lot of good memories were made.

Jane enjoyed playing games, reading and watching sports, especially the Mariners. She liked to travel, leading Jane and Ron on many fun adventures together. When the kids got older, Jane worked for several years in office and bookkeeping positions. She was a long-time member of 1st Christian Reformed Church and was active in Women’s Bible Studies. She was also involved with the church lady’s famous potato salad crew for many years. Family was important to her, and she rarely missed Thursday morning coffee time with the Bajemas.

Jane is survived by her husband Ron of 67 years, children Jeff (Lori), Debbie (Brad) and Julie; grandchildren Haylee (Josh), Brady (Tara) and Riley (Tyler); and great grandchildren Landon, Carson, Ruby and Jaxon. Also, her sister Sylvia, brother and sisters-in-law Doug and Jan, Hank and Kathy, Dee, Doris, and Joann as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her infant sister Lois, brothers Sherm and Glen, brothers-in-law Shorty and Herb, nephew Mark, niece Gail, and great granddaughter Eleanor Grace.
