Donald Stiefel Obituary

Donald Stiefel, 93, Minot, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at his home.


Donald was born on May 28, 1931, in Beulah, ND. He was the eldest son born to John and Frieda (Zeiszler) Stiefel. Donald was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Stanton, ND. He attended school in Stanton and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951. Donald was stationed in Korea and Germany for 3 years.


When Donald returned from the service, he worked in construction, then at the Minot Air Force Base, followed by working on the construction of the Basin Electric Power Plant. Donald’s last job was at the UPA Plant until his retirement in 1993.


Donald was a member of the American Legion for 65 years. He was also a member of the VFW and the Eagles.


Donald is survived by his wife, Avis; two children, Monty (Sissy) Stiefel, Garrison, ND and Cindy (John) Gorley, Pick City, ND; two step-children, Sonja (Curtiss) Moe, Garrison and Shawn Thorson, Velva, ND; three grandsons and one granddaughter; five great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; other extended family and numerous friends.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Richter; parents, John and Frieda Stiefel; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Ivan and Marvin; and two sisters, Betty Johnson and Jeanette Schwindt.


Graveside Service: Friday, May 9th, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
