Marilyn M. Spengler Obituary

Springfield — Marilyn Marie Spengler, 85, of Springfield, Illinois, died Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Mary, Queen and Mother Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born Oct. 4, 1939, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Earl C. and Myrtle B. Hoag Baptist. She married Robert Knopp in Jacksonville in 1976. He preceded her in death in 1993. She married Henry T. Spengler on Sept. 5, 1998, at South Fork Christian Church in Rochester. He preceded her in death in 2010. Marilyn was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Betty Davenport and Vivian Southcomb.


Marilyn was a member of South Fork Christian Church. She graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1957 and worked at General Telephone Co. for many years. She loved reading, traveling nationally and internationally and socializing.


Marilyn is survived by one stepson, Lester (wife, Kathy) Knopp, of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Juliette (Tim) Wolf and Ally Knopp; two great-grandchildren, Clayton Wolf and Parker Wolf; one sister, Beverly (Paul L.) Elliott, of Waverly; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marilyn’s family will meet family and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee, with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery in Pawnee.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Marilyn’s memory by taking a friend out for coffee.
