Eileen M. (Campbell) Smigliani, 86, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by her family.
Born in Salem, MA on June 8, 1938, to Edmund and Helen (Hanlon) Campbell, Eileen spent her childhood and teenage years embracing all that her beloved hometown had to offer. A graduate of Salem High School, she was honored by her classmates with a quote under her picture, “Lovely to look at, delightful to know”. She lovingly mentioned it throughout her life.
Her first job was a secretary at Bomac Labs in Beverly where she met her husband, Philip Smigliani. They married in 1960, beginning a beautiful life together. In her early years, Eileen enjoyed dancing, bowling, cards, and family trips to Cape Cod and New Hampshire.
In the 1980’s, Eileen was a counselor at the Diet Center in Danvers and a sales associate at a children’s consignment store. However, her proudest and most cherished role was that of a stay-at-home mother to her three children.
Her promotion to "Stay-at-Home Nana" was one she treasured deeply, caring for her five grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
Eileen’s kitchen table was her happy place, always with a Dunkin' Donuts coffee in hand, a newspaper open, and her favorite "stories" playing on TV. Saturdays were reserved for trips to the hairdressers and the mall, where she browsed every store, picking out a new blouse for herself or finding just the right gift for an upcoming birthday or holiday.
Family was the heart of Eileen’s life. She hosted every holiday, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Summers were spent in her backyard pool, serving up endless peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and her famous sweet iced tea.
Eileen is survived by her children: Jane Smigliani Nickolas and her husband Steve, Lisa Audesse, and Philip Jr., all of Peabody. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Amy Bean and her husband Nick; Amanda Audesse and her husband Derrick Light; Eric Borr and his wife Jenna; Philip Smigliani III and his partner Rich Fay; and Katelyn Pavao and her husband Eric; as well as her cherished great-grandchildren: Nickolas Bean, Nolan Bean, and Zoe Light. She is also survived by her nieces Julia (Campbell) Anaya and Linda (Campbell) McDonald; and nephew, Peter Campbell and his wife Evelyn; and their children.
Eileen is predeceased by her husband Philip Smigliani; her brother, David A. Campbell and his wife, VeAnn A. Campbell; and their daughter, Anna (Campbell) Cauble.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 12:00 PM at St. John’s Church in Peabody, MA, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem, MA.
