Marjorie A. Sanders Obituary

Marjorie A. Sanders, age 83 of Wantage, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Newton Medical Center. Born in Paterson to the late Cornelius and Gladys (Ryker) DeYoung, Marjorie grew up in Wayne and had lived in Wantage for over 60 years. In her youth, Marjorie worked for her family’s business, Pequannock Feed and Coal. She drove school bus for Dunn’s Bus Service and then transitioned to the Wantage School library. She was then one of the welcoming faces at the desk in the main office of the Wantage school for over 25 years. She was loved by her coworkers, parents, and students alike. She was Mrs. Sanders to many and always enjoyed seeing her students through the years, sharing the memories of what her connection was to them. She retired as a secretary for the Wantage Board of education.

Marjorie loved knitting, and she was extremely gifted in this art. She shared that love with others by leading knitting classes at local schools and libraries. Her circle of friends through this hobby continued to grow. She also loved spending time with her “lady friends” as well as her family trips to Ocean Grove and LBI.

Marjorie was a proud member of the Sussex United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She served with the United Methodist Women, and also in different capacities with the council. She really enjoyed helping serve at dinners and festivals through the church and making her famous potato salad.

Predeceased by her parents; husband Alfred J. Sanders, Jr.; and brother Robert M. DeYoung, Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Koren Burke and her husband David IV; grandson, David Burke V; nieces Holly, Heather, Amy, Amber and Heidi; and nephew Raymond. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dixie DeYoung and brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Brenda Sanders.

A visitation for Marjorie will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, 4-8 PM at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third St., Sussex, NJ 07461.
