Sharon Kay (Wellington) Allen, 81, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on April 27, 2025. She was born January 30, 1944 in Lima, OH.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry Allen; daughter, Stephanie (Brad) Bannister; and her cherished granddaughters, Morgan (Brad Dunphy) and Madison Bannister. She is also survived by her sister, Sandy (Wellington) Davis; in-laws Nancy (Brent) Martin, Janet (Mike) Jones, Brent (Sally) Allen, and Mark (Carolyn) Allen; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Charles Wellington, and mother, Fay (Sawmiller) Wellington; her mother-in-law, Helen (Clark) Allen, and father-in-law, Frank L. Allen; and brothers-in-law, Larry Barnes and Michael Downey.
A proud graduate of Bowling Green State University in 1966 and later earning her Master’s Degree from the University of Dayton, Sharon dedicated her life to education. She began her teaching career in Mad River Township Schools, taught in Kettering City Schools, and spent the majority of her 30-year career teaching first grade at Sidney City Schools. After retiring, she continued her love of teaching as a reading consultant for Sidney City Schools and later worked as a vision therapist at Primary Eye Care.
Sharon was a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council, participated in the Altar Guild, and was a founding member of the Renewal Program Committee and Team. Her commitment to the community was evident through her involvement with Charity League (serving as President during the first Red Glove Revue), the Rainbow Garden Club, Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers’ Sorority, and the Shelby County Retired Teachers’ Association.
She had a passion for gardening, loved traveling with family and friends, delighted in visiting with her grand-puppy, and found her greatest joy in spending time with her granddaughters. Sharon will be remembered as helpful, caring, kind, and friendly — a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who touched countless lives and will be deeply missed.
