Franklin "Duke" Johnson, affectionately known as Frank, passed away on April 26, 2025, at the age of 62, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born on August 16, 1962, in Pontiac, Michigan, Frank was a beacon of joy and laughter to all who knew him.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Teresa, and cherished children, Bruce York, Matthew Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Cody (Ryanne) Johnson, Tabatha VanNess, Tyler (fiancée Chelsea) VanNess, Isabella (Zach) May, and Trevor VanNess, stepdad Roger Young. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Elijah, Ethan, Everleigh, Mia, Hazel, and Mason, who were the apple of his eye. He will be fondly remembered by his sisters, Marcella (Wendell) Smith and Tina Kramer, as well as his close nieces and nephews, Hannah, Sean, and Brittany. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Fannie, them along with his stepdad instilled in him the values of family and humor that he carried throughout his life.
Frank's passion for life was evident in his love for the Detroit Lions, a team he supported through thick and thin. His enthusiasm for football was matched only by his dedication to spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. Frank's zest for the outdoors was unmistakable; he relished every opportunity to go hunting and fishing, embracing the tranquility and beauty of nature.
Music was the soundtrack of Frank's life, and he enjoyed all genres, finding solace and happiness in the melodies and rhythms that accompanied him on his journey. Cremation has taken place and celebration of Frank’s life will be held on his birthday this year at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Metamora.
