Charlotte (Point) Thompson

Charlotte (Point) Thompson Waiehawi, 82, Wolf Clan, began her journey to the Sky World in the early evening of April 26, 2025 at her home surrounded by the love of her family. Charlotte was born September 9, 1942, at home in Kawehnoke (Cornwall Island, Akwesasne), the daughter of the late Louis and Eva (Jacobs) Point. She married Richard Thompson on July 22, 1961 at the Methodist Church.


In her earlier years she attended school in Kawehnoke. After completing 8th grade, she went into the work field, where she worked as a cooking assistant at multiple restaurants. While raising her children she strung wooden sticks for a local lacrosse company and also helped assist her mother in making sweetgrass pin cushions. For 24 years she was a seamstress at Levi Strauss, a sewing plant in Cornwall. Charlotte was also a dedicated Faithkeeper to the Mohawk Nation Longhouse. She belonged to the Sharenhowaneh Clan family. She would often express the importance of sharing cultural knowledge and encouraged others to learn Kanien'keha.


Charlotte was a caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time along the St. Lawrence River, either fishing, collecting rocks and shells with her grandchildren or having a family cookout. Along with sewing, Charlotte also enjoyed crocheting, beading, thrifting, and cooking. She was known for her wisdom, generosity, and compassion. Throughout the years she opened her home to many, offering a place to stay or a nice meal. Charlotte was also one who loved animals, she enjoyed watching the birds and caring for her two dogs Chloe and Sugar.


Charlotte is survived by her husband Richard and their five children, Donna Thompson (Mark Powless), Darlene Thompson, Susie Rourke (Raymond), Richard “Eddie” Thompson (Sylvie), and Nelson “Chuck” Thompson (Kim). Charlotte is survived by her 15 grandchildren, Tyson (Sanya), LaToya (Matthew), Kaylann, Bryce (Andi), Sierra (Christopher), Chad, Brodie (Karley), Kiowere, Sako (Krista), Chandler, Hawi (Tanisha), Bailee (Gutch), Amanda (Kraig), Kayden, Avery and 30 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Pauline Oliver (John), sister in-law Evelyn Bebee, brother in-law Donnie White and many nieces, nephews and cousins.


In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her grandsons, Jovie Thompson and Dalyn Ransom, her brother Percy Point (Karen), and her sisters Madeline David (Ross), Florence David (Jack), Audrey Thompson (Louie) , Judy Swamp (Jake), Clara White, Cecelia Point, Dinah Point; brother-in-laws Andrew, Mike, John, George, Thomas, Patrick and Joseph Thompson; and sister-in-laws Mary Jocko (Louis), Sarah Casey (Tom), and Christina McCourt (Dan).


Family and Friends may call at her home 392 Island Road, Akwesasne, ON, beginning Wednesday, 10:00 AM . Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:30 AM at the Mohawk Nation


Longhouse. Burial will follow in the Longhouse Cemetery in Kawehnoke,ON. Meal to follow at the Kawehnoke Recreation.
