Laura Wilder Strickland Obituary

Laura Wilder Strickland, 92, of Dunn, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025, at The Carrolton of Dunn Nursing Home. She was born on June 12, 1932, to the late Leonard and Mafra Higgins Wilder. She is preceded in death by her husband Howard Strickland; brother Jimmie Wilder; sisters, Sarah Smith, and Janie Marks.


Laura was a 1950 graduate of Corinth-Holder High School where she was Salutatorian. She worked for ten years at First Citizens Bank and various other part-time jobs.


Laura was a member of Second Baptist Church in Dunn where she served as interim church pianist, Sunday school Teacher, and Choir Director.


A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens Cemetery.


She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Gossett of Winston-Salem; son, Ben Strickland and wife Carlene of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Kevin Gossett, Bennett Strickland and wife Olivia, Carson Strickland and wife Taylor; great grandchildren, Cooper Gossett, Grayson Strickland, Palmer Strickland, Brynleigh Strickland; brother, Charles Wilder; sister, Doris Douglas, Lunell Hinton; and sister-in-law, Milie Wilder.


The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.


The family would like to thank the staff at The Carrolton of Dunn Nursing Home and Bayada Hospice of Fayetteville for their care for Mrs. Strickland.
