Leon Joseph Hadfield Obituary

Leon Joseph Hadfield (“Lee”) age 88 of Glassboro, formerly of Wenonah, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Born in Camden, NJ, he graduated from Camden High School and served in the US Navy on the USS Robert A. Owens. He married the love of his life, Helen A. Shearer on May 19,1962 and together had three children, as well as caring for many foster children over the years. Lee was a liquor store manager and retired in 2008, but continued working part time for several years. In his younger days, he was an amateur baseball player for the Broadway and Everett team in the Camden City Playground League, and he was a life-long fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.


He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen A. Hadfield; children, Lee J. Hadfield & his wife, Arelis of NC, Maureen M. Davies & her husband, Jim of AZ, and Marc C. Hadfield & partner, Eveline of NY; grandchildren, Jennifer Carroll & her husband, Jacob, and Robert Leon Peck & his wife, Emily; great grandchildren, Liam Charles & Abigail Leona; and his brother, Harry Hadfield & his wife, Marie. Lee was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Harriet Hadfield (nee Niewinski); two sisters, Lynetta & Marcia Hadfield; his in-laws, Thomas J., and Helen Elizabeth Shearer; and sister-in-law, Estella Marie Shearer.


Relatives & friends may visit from 9:30 am to 10:45 am on Friday, May 2nd at Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where a funeral Mass will be held at 11 am. Burial will follow in New St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bellmawr, NJ.
