Ardeth J. Crounse, 94, of Feura Bush, NY, passed peacefully from this earth on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
She was born at home in Delmar,N.Y. , the second daughter of the late Julia and John.
Ardeth is predeceased by her beloved and adoring husband Fred of 70 year’s, who she missed terribly every day since his passing, and her sister Jean M. Reohr, and her nephew Joseph H. “Jay” Reohr lll; and many dear friends who went before her. Ardeth leaves behind her daughter Constance Myers (Ike)of Westerlo, N.Y. who lovingly cared for her till the end, and her niece Janice Monaghan. She leaves behind three grandchildren, Bryan Myers II (Michelle), Joshua Myers (Monica) and Amanda Myers. She also has four great grandchildren Victoria, Carolyne, and Everett Myers, Carter Gutterman, and one great-great grandson, Finlee Myers, as well as, some extended family and dear friends.
As a young child, she had a few chickens that lived in the basement of the house and she would recall how they climbed up the cellar stairs before they went to a coop her father had built for them. She had to walk a mile and a half to school, as there was no bus. She graduated from BCHS in 1949.
After graduation, she worked at Ormand’s in downtown Albany for four years making her way to assistant manager.
Ardeth lived most of her life in Albany County and, after marrying her husband Fred in May of 1952, they lived a short time in Delmar and later they moved to Aberdeen, MD, where Fred was briefly stationed. They had many good times living the Army life. Upon returning to N.Y., they settled in the sleepy hamlet of Onesquethaw, N.Y.
where she lived with her beloved, Fred. They had one daughter Connie whom they raised here, beginning in a single-wide trailer they bought new in 1952 and then in the family homestead down the street on Tarrytown Rd.
Ardeth was a lively woman with energy to spare! She was always actively involved in one adventure or another. She was in a bowling league for 20 years; she was an avid square dancer and was proud to claim that she danced at Procter’s Theatre. She and Fred also square danced in Alaska when Fred took her there after retirement to show her where he was stationed during his Army tour. She sang in a choir for Billy Graham at “The Egg” and worked as a noon-hour aide at Clarksville Elementary school for 8 years. She also enjoyed working in the Arts and Crafts building at the Altamont Fair.
She was a lifelong member of Onesquethaw Reformed Church. There, she sang in the choir, made banners, orchestrated church suppers, and was an overall pillar within the church body. As a member of the Pairs and Spares church group, she helped plan their weekend Camp Fowler winter retreats for almost 50 years!
In her spare time, Ardeth loved to play cards, knit, quilt, crochet, and do jigsaw puzzles. In her later years she gleaned happiness in such simple things as watching the birds in the feeders outside the sunny windows of her home.
One of Ardeth’s biggest passions was travel! She traveled internationally, with her husband, to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and Mexico. She loved to visit life long friends in Texas and California.
Additionally, they loved to follow their grandson Bryan and his family to all of their Naval duty stations including Italy and Iceland, as well as many Eastern States. For many years Ardeth and Fred had standing yearly reservations in Dennis Port, Cape Cod, and Indian Lake, NY in the Adirondacks.
Of all the places Ardeth visited around the world, her favorite of them all was the little slice of lakefront Heaven that she and Fred owned on the Great Sacandaga Reservoir in Day, N.Y. She never tired of sitting on the banks and watching the boats, birds, the grandchildren playing in the water and the always raging bonfire. Family gatherings here were her favorite pastime and they will never again be quite the same without her.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing for Ardeth on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 3:00-5:00, as well as, a funeral service on May 5, 2025, 11:00 at Meyers Funeral Home 741 Delaware Ave, Delmar, N.Y. Please come join us as we celebrate the beautiful life of an amazing woman!
