Frederick “Freddy” Aloysius Whelan, 88, of Flaherty, KY passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025 at his residence. Mr. Whelan was born Thursday, January 14, 1937 in Flaherty, KY.

Mr. Whelan was a life long member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Flaherty, KY. He was retired from Olin Chemical Plant, Brandenburg, KY where he had worked as a supervior.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gayle Williams Whelan; his parents, Edward & Hallie Hager Whelan; six brothers, Bill Whelan, Bob Whelan, Wayne Whelan, Danny Joe Whelan, Ken Whelan, Lee Whelan; and a sister, Mary Clare Phillips.

Mr. Whelan is survived by five sons, Paul A. Whelan & his wife, Michelle, Joe Whelan & his wife, Yanaliz, Steve Whelan & his wife, Debbie, Father Daniel Whelan, Chris Whelan & his wife, Kelly; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.

Visitation will be 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 30, 2025 and from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Chism Family Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM, Wednesday at the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Whelan will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Flaherty, KY. Burial will follow in the St. Martin Church Cemetery, Flaherty, KY.
