Esther Nolan 92, of Edison, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains after a short illness.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, she came to the United States with her husband Joe in 1957. They lived in Newark before moving to Edison in 1968.
Esther worked as a housekeeper for the rectory at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Edison for 25 years. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Matthew’s Parish and, in her later years, would faithfully watch Mass on Sunday mornings with the Paulist Fathers. An avid reader, she enjoyed mystery and crime novels, and she had a fondness for jewelry.
She was predeceased by her daughter Maureen (d.1995), and her husband Joseph (d.2005).
She is survived by two of her sons, Rev. Brian J. Nolan, Pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville, and Brendan Nolan and his wife Azalia of Myrtle Beach, SC. She is also survived by her grandson Joseph Nolan, and sole surviving sister, Betty Bryne.
The Funeral will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 8:45 a.m. at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen followed, by a 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, Edison. The interment will be in Holy Cross Burial Park, Jamesburg.
The visitation is on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm.
