Nancy E. Saxe Obituary

Nancy E. (Oliver) Saxe, 85 recently of Port Matilda and formerly of Everett, PA; passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at the Celebration Villa of Altoona in Duncansville, PA.  She was born on December 16, 1939 in Hunlock Creek, PA; a daughter of the late John and Esther (McMichael) Oliver.  On July 06, 1957, she was united in marriage to Rev. Jay A. Saxe in Hunlock Creek, PA.

She is survived by children, Steven F. Saxe, Duncansville, PA; and Laurie Ann Richards married to Randall, Port Matilda, PA; grandchildren Josiah Saxe, Joshua Saxe, Brittany Richards, and Brianna Richards.

She is also survived by the following sisters and brothers: Jean Dorshefski of Hunlock Creek, PA; Mary Bodek married to Michael of Shickshinny, PA; John Oliver married to Joan of North Wales, PA; and Michael Oliver married to Jane of Lake George, CO.

She was a member of the Steven’s Chapel United Methodist Church.  She also belonged to the Penn State Alumni Association.

Nancy graduated from Northwest Area High school in 1957.  She graduated from Penn State University in 1975; receiving her master’s degree from Shippensburg University in 1993. Prior to retiring as a teacher in 2002, she taught in the Altoona School District.  She also was a long-term substitute in the Forbes Road School District, Chambersburg School District as a reading teacher, and the TIU Intermediate Unit.

Nancy will be remembered for her passion for teaching, her love for her family, and her unwavering faith.  She enjoyed gardening, reading, hunting and spending time with her family and friends.  Her legacy of education and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 03, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the Everett United Methodist Church with Rev. John Mullen officiating.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, May 03, 2025 from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service in the Everett United Methodist Church; 221 East Main Street, Everett, PA 15537.

Burial will be held privately.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Nancy to the Clearville United Methodist Church, 155 Rock Hill Church Road, Clearville, PA 15535; or Patterson Grove Campground, 1128 Bethel Hill Road, Shickshinny, PA 18655.
