Susanne Sauer Obituary

Susanne Evelyn Sauer (Hay) passed away peacefully on April 23rd at the age of 83 at Jersey Shore Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rahway, NJ and grew up in Roselle Park and Cranford and spent many wonderful summers in Manasquan before relocating to Manasquan permanently in 2020. Sue graduated from Roselle Park High School and she volunteered in St Theresa’s School serving as a class mom, cafeteria aide, member of the PTSO, and even taught a computer class. She was also very active in St Theresa’s Parish in Kenilworth serving as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Spiritual Life Committee.


Sue was predeceased by her parents, James & Evelyn Hay, her brother James Hay, and her sister -in-law Joan Schell. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Alfred H. Sauer, her 4 children: Alfred Sauer (Tammy), Eileen Skillrud (Marcus), James Sauer (Melissa McDermott), & Lynn Sauer and her 4 grandchildren: Emily, Jessica, Rhys, and Hayley. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Miller (James), her sisters-in-law Patricia Kemps (Jacques), Maureen Interdonato (Robert), Marilyn Payne (Richard), and Christine Crossman, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sue loved the beach, gardening, spending time with her family, and taking long walks on the boardwalk and around Manasquan with her husband. She was a devoted care giver and matriarch and everyone who knew her felt her kindness.


Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday April 26, 2025, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Chapel 554 E. Main Street Manasquan, NJ 08736, with a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to the Center for Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1900 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 or to https://cfhh.org/.
