Eufemio John Cucci Obituary
Eufemio John Cucci, a devoted family man, Korean War veteran, and respected insurance industry leader, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, in Los Angeles, California, at the home of his eldest son at the age of 92.
Born on July 3, 1932, in Whitehall, New York, John was the son of Italian immigrants Eufemio and Elsie Cucci. He grew up alongside his two sisters, Nancy and Theresa Lonergan, the latter serving as the esteemed historian of Ticonderoga.
After graduating from high school, John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a navigator during the Korean War at the rank of lieutenant.
He received the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement for military operations. Upon returning, he pursued higher education at St. John’s University in New York City, where he pursued his doctorate in literature.
John’s professional journey led him to Glens Falls, New York, where he worked as the Public Relations Manager for the Glens Falls Insurance Company. It was there he met the love of his life, Martha Claire McCarthy. The couple married and shared 58 wonderful years together.
In 1971, the Cuccis moved to Croton-on-Hudson, New York. John became the Senior Vice President of the Alliance of American Mutual Insurers in NYC, dedicating decades to advocating for favorable legislation and representing the insurance industry for many of the East Coast states. His expertise in public relations made him a valued consultant in the field.
A passionate community member, John coached youth sports during his sons’ early years and later championed local tennis court improvements. He was an avid supporter of the Croton Free Library, actively participating in several book clubs.
John is survived by his sons, John T. Cucci and Timothy E. Cucci; daughter-in-law, Claudette Cucci; and grandsons, Jack and Joe Cucci; as well as his sister-in-law Joan Hier in Ticonderoga, NY.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Claire, in 2019.
A Graveside Service will take place at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11 a.m.. The Rev. Medenel Angrand, Pastor, will officiate.
A Memorial Service to celebrate John’s life will be held on May 4, 2025, At the Croton Free Library. From 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Croton Free Library, reflecting John’s lifelong love of literature and community engagement.
