It is with deep love and sorrow that we share the passing of Jack R. Johnston of Boissevain, Manitoba. After a long and courageous battle with PAD, Jack passed away peacefully on April 23rd, 2025, surrounded by his family. We are incredibly grateful to the MAiD program for helping bring an end to his pain with dignity and peace.
Jack was born in Hamiota, MB on July 21st, 1947 and raised in Crandall, MB.  From a young age, he developed a strong work ethic delivering milk with his horses, Lulu and May, before school each morning.  The lessons those horses taught him stayed with him for life.
After graduating high school in 1966, Jack started down a path to getting his Chartered Accountant degree, with stops in Selkirk, Saskatoon, Brandon, and Winnipeg. Eventually he moved his young family to Boissevain in 1975.  He chose the small-town life for his three children because of the strong sense of community he deeply valued. He started his own private practice in 1977, running a successful accounting firm until he sold it in 1993. He was able to continue working with select clients from his happy place at Bower Lake.
Jack had a deep love for the outdoors, particularly proud of his time hunting waterfowl, deer, moose, and pheasants with his good friends from Snow Lake, MB to Lake Andes, SD. He spent time figure skating, dog training and dog trialing with his kids around Manitoba. His love for his animals throughout his entire life was evident. In the city, he showed cocker spaniels. Once in Boissevain, he began breeding labrador retrievers as hunting companions, transitioning into a full-time dog training expert in retirement.
Jack supported causes close to his heart, including but not limited to the Turtle Mountain Wildlife Assoc., Ducks Unlimited, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and the Turtle Derby. Jack was always ready to lend a hand or share a good story.
Jack’s happiest place was the cabin at Bower Lake, and his greatest joy was being surrounded by his family, his grandchildren and his dogs.
He was deeply reflective in his later years, often expressing how lucky he felt to have lived such a good life. Jack was predeceased by his parents Alice & Garnet, his brothers Herb & Dennis along with his sister-in-law, Helen. He is lovingly remembered by his children Ryan (Lisa), Stacy (Tammy), Tonia; his 7 grandchildren; Caileigh, Mackenzie, Brady, Cameron, Reegan, Jazmyn & Kolten and his sisters Lawrie & Lois.

Thank you Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Brother and friend, for the stories, the laughter, and all the love. We miss you dearly and hope you’ve found peace.
