Lynda Louise Hinks Couvier was born on September 13, 1950. She grew up in Souris, MB with her parents Cliff and Norma Hinks and her sisters Val and Lori. They moved to Thunder Bay, ON where she completed her grade 13 and got certified as a LPN nurse.
She married Robin Couvier March 10, 1973 and they moved to Miniota, MB and started their family. She followed her husband to Fairfax, Niverville and Foxwarren before settling back where they began in Miniota.
Our mom was a natural care giver. She stayed home to take care of her children making sure our lunches always had homemade snacks in them, Oreos and Jell-O pudding cups were not for us. Mom enjoyed sewing so we had handmade Halloween costumes that would always fit over our snow suits, she made us matching “jogging suits” and even clothes for our Cabbage Patch Kids. When we got a bit older, she worked part time jobs in the local video store or restaurants. When they moved back to Miniota many years later, she went back to school to become a Health Care Aid and worked in care homes for 18 years.
She was part of the United Church Women’s group, taught Sunday School and coached t-ball. She joined the community club board in each town we lived in and taught us that “you shouldn’t complain about anything if you weren’t willing to participate in it”. She believed in working hard and that each trial and tribulation in life was “character building”.
When someone was sick or needed help she was the first to step up to offer to cook, bake, run errands or just sit with them and talk. She was passionate about raising funds for Cancer Care and would visit with other cancer survivors that needed to talk.
She was known by many for her chocolate chip cookies and soft homemade buns.
She was a wife, mother, auntie, sister and friend but her favorite job was being a fun Granny that loved to go for walks and always had treats in her cupboards for her grandkids.
She passed peacefully on April 23, 2025 and will be missed by many including her daughters and sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, in laws, nieces and nephews and friends.
