Jerome "Jerry" Anthony Romero Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 3pm in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, LA. Jerome “Jerry” Anthony Romero, age 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Hospice of Acadiana’s Calcutta House surrounded by his three children and family.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 1:00pm until time of services. Inurnment will be held in the St. John Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass at 3pm and will be officiated by The Very Reverend Chester C. Arceneaux, VF, and Deacon Kirk Duplantis.

Jerry's legacy lives on through his loving three children; daughter, Shannon Romero Cox and her husband, Stuart, of San Marcos, TX; son, Mathew Romero and his wife, Jennifer, of Youngsville, LA; and daughter, Bryce Romero Georg and her husband, Derek, of Austin, TX. He was a proud and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren; Klein Bresinger, Reid Bresinger, Bronson Romero, Carleigh Romero, Owen Romero, Presley Georg, and Jetson Georg. He will be deeply missed by his brother, Dr. Robert Romero; sister-in-law Carolyn Romero, and a host of cherished nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John Harry Romero, Sr. and Mildred Chargois Romero; his brothers, Captain John Harry Romero, Jr., USAF and Dr. Russell Charles Romero; his sister-in-law, Carrie Romero Durand; brother-in-law, Frank Durand, and nephew, John Harry Romero, III.

Jerry was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and great friend.  His life was guided by his steadfast Catholic faith, a profound love for his family and a strong dedication to his community. A devout Catholic, he found solace and strength in daily church visits, daily prayers, and served with humility as an usher at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, LA. His faith was the cornerstone of his existence, and it was reflected in his daily actions.

One of his proudest achievements was serving as President of the San Marcos Texas Chamber of Commerce, where his leadership and vision helped propel the city’s business community to remarkable and unprecedented growth.

Born on April 22, 1951 in Lafayette, Jerry was a proud graduate of Cathedral Carmel High School and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Over nearly five decades, he built a successful career in sales, spanning a wide range of industries while making his mark in oil and gas, printing services, pharmaceuticals, and eventually, pipe and valve sales. His professional journey reflected his dynamic spirit, unwavering drive, and magnetic personality.

Much of Jerry’s character and accomplishments were shaped by his upbringing and the strong work ethic instilled by his parents. He fondly remembered working alongside his family at the Romero and Montgomery Dry Cleaning business in Lafayette. This time in his life laid the foundation for his lifelong dedication to hard work and family values.

Those who knew Jerry would describe him as loving, passionate, and a faith-filled man. He lived each day with purpose, his presence and enthusiastic spirit were a beacon of light to his family and friends. His personality lit up every room he entered, and he never met a stranger without finding a connection.

Jerry leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and compassion. He will be remembered for his profound impact on his family and the countless lives he touched with his generous heart. Though he has left this earthly realm, he will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

Lectors are his daughters, Shannon and Bryce. The Eulogy will be given by his son, Mathew. Giftbearers are his seven grandchildren, Carleigh, Presley, Klein, Reid, Bronson, Owen and Jetson.

Pallbearers are Klein Bresinger, Reid Bresinger, Bronson Romero, Owen Romero, and Jetson Georg. Honorary pallbearers include his nephews, Joe Romero, Dr. Jason Romero, and Dr. Jordan Romero.

The Romero family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Maison de Lafayette, especially the caretakers on hall 300 for your love and compassion during the last nine months. Sincere thanks also to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and aides at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and the entire team at Hospice of Acadiana’s Calcutta House. Your kindness and care will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, Our Lady of Mercy of Baton Rouge, LA. or the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist of Lafayette, LA.
