Elizabeth A. Kennedy Obituary

Elizabeth A. Kennedy, affectionately known as Betty to all who knew her,82, passed away on April 23, 2025, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY surrounded by her children and grandchildren . Betty was the heart, the soul and the glue of the family. Known for her large family gatherings on the holidays with place cards welcoming everybody, tea parties using the real teacups and saucers , visits to school events for all her 11 grandchildren and the unsurpassed hugs that were often accompanied by “You got two arms, use them” .

Born on October 22, 1942, in Utica, NY to parents Francis and Margaret (Lynch) Warmuth. Betty was the youngest child of four children. Her three brothers Fran , Bill and Dick Warmuth and her two “sisters” Mary Ann Warmuth and Bruce Warmuth, all predeceased her, yet still were spoken about regularly as Betty recalled the important people in her life and her desire to be with them again in Heaven. She said, “I had to wait until I was 16 to have a sister, but it was worth it.”

Betty married the love of her life, John H. Kennedy on Nov. 25, 1961, at St. Joseph's in Utica, NY. Together they shared 61 beautiful years together raising six children. Countless people knew her for the time she gave as a historic interpreter at various Hudson Valley sites ( Mills, Montgomery Place and Clermont) where she shared her joy and knowledge of Livingston history with hundreds of people.

Betty was a faithful communicant at St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook. She was a compassionate member of the parish to new and old, making people feel welcomed and embraced. Betty and John’s devotion to Our Mother Mary was evident when they enthusiastically participated in the rosary after daily mass until their health prevented it. She continued carrying on the devotion at home and later in the hospital until her last days. Her most important two objects at the hospital besides her family were her rosary and her picture of John.

Betty is survived by her children, Karen Kennedy of Whittier, NC, John (Paula) G Kennedy of Pleasant Valley, NY, James M Kennedy of Red Hook, NY, Mary (Matthew) E. Doherty of Tivoli, NY, Margaret (Lee) Stowe of Woodstock, NY, and Richard A. Kennedy of Deerfield, NY; her loving grandchildren, Michael Kennedy, Caitlyn Lambert, Danielle Kennedy, Ryan Long, Erin Kennedy, John H Kennedy, Colleen Doherty, Claire Stowe, Andrew Doherty, Rose Stowe, and Mary Grace Doherty; her loving great grandchildren, Paisley Kennedy, Charli Kennedy, Klayton Lambert and Rhett Lambert; along with extended family and friends.
