Wilbur Leroy Hughes, age 93, of Sidney, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney.

Wilbur Leroy Hughes, born in Dayton, Ohio, to John W. Hughes Sr. and Oma (Ingram)Hughes on January 13, 1932.

He was a graduate of Parkersburg (W. Virginia) High School Class of 1950. A veteran of the Korean War having served as a Medic in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Wilbur sold insurance for Western Southern Life for many years having developed several personal relationships with his clients. He worked for Montgomery Ward, serving in home décor. He began working for Dutch Pantry Restaurant in Management in 1969 receiving his own store in 1970 in Sidney, Ohio, where he continued to manage for 35 years.

Wilbur retired from Dutch Pantry, enjoying his retirement for a year. Out of boredom, Wilbur got his CDL and began driving an interstate haul for Kirk National Lease (Sidney) developing a great long-time relationship with owners Phil and Pauline Kirk.

Wilbur was married for 68 years as of June 2, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Lee (Riggs) Hughes (September 26, 2024). Survived by 3 children, James “Randy” Hughes (Deborah) of Sidney, Ronald C. Hughes (Laura) of Sidney, Cynthia Comolli (David deceased) of Sidney, 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by parents, John and Oma, brothers Donald, John and Daniel and sister Jeanane. He is survived by brother Kenneth (Bradenton, FL.)

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney.
