It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Alexander “Sandy” Roy Jackson, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the age of 81. 

Born in North Sydney on March 26, 1944, Sandy was the son of the late Joseph R. and Edna L. (Musgrave) Jackson.

In his younger years, Sandy worked for a time with Metropolitan Life and Co-operator’s Insurance, as well as H.B. Nickerson’s and Sons, until starting his career with Marine Atlantic, where he retired after several decades.

Sandy was a kind person who was a friend to many. He enjoyed camping, and spent many years with his family and friends at MacLeod’s Campground in Dunvegan. He also enjoyed fishing. Sandy was also involved in his community and served as secretary and treasurer for the Marine Atlantic Pensioner’s Association. He also served on the executive of the Canadian Brotherhood of Railway, Transport and General Workers union.

Sandy is survived by his wife Anne (Greene) Jackson; daughters Lori and Kelli Jackson; sisters Rhonda Black and Kathy MacIntosh; brothers-in-law Walter Pelley, Ken Greene (Louise) and Fred Young; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Sandy was predeceased by his sisters Theresa Pelley and Shirley MacLeod; sisters-in-law Eileen Ward, Dorothy MacLeod and Eleanor Young; brothers-in-law Hugh MacLeod, Bill Black, JB MacSween, Ian MacIntosh and Don Ward; and nephew Paul MacLeod.

A visitation will take place at 1:00 -2:30 pm, Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James MacLellan officiating. Donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney, the Cape Breton Cancer Center or a charity of choice. Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall.
