William Harrison Fife, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, departed this life on April 23, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.
William, born the fourth of eight children to the late Vinson Elton Fife, Sr. and Wilyne Chambers Fife, (both proceed him in death) was raised in a strong Christian home in the rural South, where faith, family, and hard work were the pillars of daily life. He grew up alongside his siblings: Vinson Elton Fife, Jr. of Jonesboro, Georgia; The late Evelyn Doris Stubbs of Centre, Alabama; Jessie Yvonne Leverette (Pastor Walter) of Oceanside, California; The late Pastor Samuel Fife of Gadsden, Alabama; Sylvia Arlene Wyatt (Samuel) of Gadsden, Alabama; The late Christopher Charles Fife of Centre, Alabama; Drusilla Maria Fife of Gadsden, Alabama.
At the tender age of five, William experienced the loss of his father, a hardship that only strengthened the bond among the siblings and their mother, Wilyne, who raised them with unwavering faith and determination. From an early age, William embraced the values of diligence and responsibility, working on the family farm and learning the trade from his uncles who were cotton farmers. He found joy in working the land, operating tractors, and growing food that nourished his family-experiences that laid the groundwork for the man he would become.
William attended Hatcher Elementary School and graduated from Cherokee County High School, where he thrived both academically and athletically. A gifted athlete, he was especially passionate about football and proudly helped lead his high school team to both local and state honors.
Following graduation, William answered the call to serve his country. He joined the National Guard before enlisting in the United States Army, where he trained as an Army Tanker and earned the rank of Private First Class. He also served as a Service Specialist, operating a .45 caliber pistol. William served honorably and was awarded an Honorable Discharge. We proudly salute his service and commitment to our nation.
William shared a lifetime of love and devotion with his wife, Barbara Fife. Their union was one of unwavering partnership and deep affection-a true testament to enduring love. Together, they built a life filled with joy, shared dreams, and cherished memories.
William is survived by His devoted wife Barbara Fife; six beloved children: Yvonne and Yvette Garret of Rome, Georgia; Lewieko and Kenya Fife of Detroit, Michigan; Ernest Antoine (Yolanda) of Atlanta, Georgia and Levonn Hall of El Cajon, California; Mother-n-law Mae Antoine; three sister-n-laws; one brother-in-law; 15 grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He took immense pride in his family, remaining closely connected and supportive throughout his life. William's faith was a guiding force from childhood to his final days. He first gave his life to Christ as a pre-teen while attending St. Mark United Methodist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church. Later, he rededicated his life under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Joseph Foxworth, Sr. at Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church. Even when health challenges made physical attendance difficult, William's spirit remained rooted in the Lord. His steadfast belief and devotion never wavered.
William Harrison Fife will be remembered as a man of resilience, integrity, and heart. His legacy of love, faith, and service lives on in his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
