George Douglas Cowan Keenan Obituary

Douglas George Cowan Keenan

Peacefully, with his daughters by his side, Douglas Keenan passed away in the early morning hours of April 23rd, 2025. He was 92.

From humble beginnings in working class Montreal, Doug went on to play baseball in the minor leagues of the St Louis Browns organization. He was a pitcher and enjoyed this time in the US and his teammates very much.

After that, he settled in London, Ontario and began working with Dominion Automobile Association (DAA). Upon moving to London he met and married Judy Keenan (nee Bugg) and they went on to have two daughters, Laurel Ann and Jacqueline Marie. They later separated but remained friends.

The job at DAA allowed Doug an opportunity to travel to Europe, Hawaii and other exotic locations which he cherished. As the sole French speaker at the company, it also allowed him to oversee and travel to Quebec regularly, where he developed strong business relationships as well as lifelong friendships. He retired from DAA as Vice President after a successful 40 year career.

He was then able to enjoy many years playing golf and taking trips to Arizona, Eastern Canada and a number of other places with his longtime girlfriend Gail. He loved spending time with his family as well as enjoying a cold beer with his friends at the Shack. He was also very involved with the Masonic Lodge for many years, specifically Centennial Lodge.

Doug is mourned and will be remembered by his longtime companion Gail Fitzsimmons, his daughters Laurel (Andrew) and Jackie, his grandchildren Travon, Duncan, Danny, Adam and Zekaiya, as well as by Judy, Sara Bariagaber and countless other friends.

As per Doug’s wishes, their will be no funeral. Extra special thanks to the wonderful team at St. Joseph’s Hospice where Doug spent the last three weeks of his life in a beautiful sun lit room eating desert twice a day. The care and compassion they showed will not be forgotten.

Donations in Doug's memory may be made to St Joseph's Hospice.
