Caroline Mary "Carrie" Hampson Obituary

CAROLINE “CARRIE” MARY HAMPSON Funeral services for Carrie M. Hampson a longtime resident of the Cortez/Dolores area, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Reverend Bud Rousset will officiate. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Carrie was born to Emil and Helen Strad on September 17, 1928 in a log cabin on the family farm along Strad Creek, in Saskatchewan, Canada. Carrie married Arnold G. Hampson on June 2, 1950 in Arborfield, Saskatchewan. Together they built a 60 year loving marriage. She passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the age of 90. Carrie grew up in the wilds of Canada and had an immense appreciation of nature. She grew up in a family of beekeepers, some of which they kept as honey with the rest being used to make honey wine and moonshine. She continued to keep bees the rest of her life. She enjoyed tending to them, educating others on their important role in nature, and helping others to safely relocate them to prevent extermination. She was truly the Queen Bee! Carrie’s favorite place to be was outside in her yard. She was an avid gardener, both in her vegetable garden as well as her rose and other flower gardens. Living next to the river in Dolores was a perfect place for her, having deer, turkeys, birds, bears and other wildlife enjoying her park-like yard and enjoying the kindness of their human friend. When she wasn’t out in the yard, Carrie enjoyed sewing, crotchet, and other fabric arts. She knitted the best baby booties and blankets and donated many of her works to African orphans. Carrie was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was also a part of the local garden club and won awards at the flower show. Surviving Carrie are her children, Shelley J. Biard and husband, Ernie of Cortez, Pixie Hollen and husband, Clay of Pleasant View, Kent S. Hampson of Cortez, Herschel Hampson of Dolores, Rebbeca Huhn and husband, Dave of Mancos, and Miranda K. Botts of Grand Junction; by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sister Ramona and brother Danny, of Canada. Carrie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Marguerite; husband Arnold G. Hampson; by an infant son, Forest Hampson; and by two grandchildren, Nathan N. Biard and Jordan R. Hampson. She also treasured her daughter-in-law Jeannie Hampson, who helped take care of her in these later years. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Carrie Hampson with the Dolores State Bank. These funds will be distributed to various local non-profit organizations.
