Imogene Grace Roush Obituary

Imogene Deichen Roush was born to George and Nina Samuelson Deichen on May 30, 1934 in Banner township near Gaylord, Kansas. She passed away March 1, 2019 at Independent Living at the age of 84 years. She was the second child of five children born to George and Nina. They lived in various locations throughout Smith and Osborne county. Imogene attended Alton High School up until her senior year when her parents moved to Smith Center. She graduated in 1952 from Smith Center High School. After high school, she worked at Duckwall’s in Smith Center. She was introduced to the love of her life (Leland)through a blind date. Leland and Imogene continued with their long-distance romance while he served in Korean conflict. After Leland’s discharge from the army in January of 1954, Imogene and Leland were united in marriage at the First Christian church in Smith Center August 22, 1954. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. To this union, four children were born-Cindy, Kirk, Kelly and Connie. Imogene and Leland raised their children on the farm southeast of Lebanon. Imogene had many hobbies including sewing, reading, and gardening. She loved to sew. She spent many afternoons at her sewing machine. Her love for sewing translated into many clothes, quilts and later Halloween costumes for her grandkids. Many of her summers were spent cultivating her tomato crop, making jelly, canning and raising chickens. She helped with many funeral dinners, baby and wedding showers. She always prided herself on her homemade creations including numerous pies, rolls, and salads. She always endeavored to find new recipes frequently clipping out a new one to try. Reading gave her great pleasure and she set aside time each day to pursue this hobby. After Imogene cooked, served and cleaned up lunch, she could be often found in her rocking chair reading a newspaper or magazine. She was active member of the First Christian Church of Lebanon. She took on the role of teaching the adult class of Sunday school which she did for 26 years. She was a member of the Jenny Lind club and enjoyed many monthly card parties with the group. Her grandkids were her passion. She always made sure she was at their programs, sporting events, and graduations with camera in hand. In January of 2018 when her Alzheimer’s reached the point of needing addition care, she moved to Independent Living in Smith Center, Kansas. Imogene continued to try to stay busy at Independent Living whether it be assisting with meal prep, setting the table for meals, dusting or taking part in afternoon games. The evening of March 1st, she peacefully passed releasing her from a 8 year battle with Alzheimer’s. She will be greatly missed by her 4 kids, 2 sons-in-laws, 1 daughter-in-law, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
