David Leon Ellis, 84, of Robinson, IL died at 6:54 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the comfort of his home. He was born on January 23, 1935 in Pomona, IL, the son of Albert Milton Ellis and Mary Belle (Crowell) Ellis, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Albert Wayne Ellis, Robert Lavern Ellis, Ronald Joe Ellis, and Harold Dillard Ellis; by his sister, Helen Ann Guthrie; and his grandson, Tucker Knoblett. He married Doris Allison on July 4, 1986 and she survives. He is also survived by his daughters & sons-in-law, Dawn Marie & Robert Anderson, Vicki & Tony Hoalt, and Kelly & David Eason; by his sons & daughters-in-law, David & Tricia Ellis, Mark Wayne Ellis, Max Eugene Gasaway, Jr., and David & Esther Dunlap; by his sisters, Helen Maxine Hicks, Virginia Dalton, Marilyn Cooper, and Marcia Norman; and by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dave grew up in Pomona, IL before joining the U.S. Army, for whom he proudly served from 1954-1965. Following his discharge, he worked for a number of businesses before becoming a car inspector for the railroad, a job he dedicated himself to for many years. Anyone who knew him could attest to his love of the outdoors. Few things brought him more joy than spending time in nature, be that hunting, fishing, or camping. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and watching them brought endless hours of enjoyment. Family and friends alike will miss Dave’s stories, but they live on in their hearts for as long as they live. As per his request, Dave will be cremated without a public service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of the cremation.
