<p>Obituary of Duane Welch</p><p>Duane E. Welch, age 88, of Big Flats, passed away on Tuesday September 11, 2018 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on March 28, 1930 in Nelson, Pennsylvania, the son of William Ray and Vera Wood Welch. He married June Carole White (Bianco) in 1957 in Queens Village, New York.</p><p>Duane lived in Elkland, Pennsylvania until 1936 and in Corning from 1936 to 1948. He attended Corning schools, graduating from Corning Free Academy in 1948, attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, 1948 to 1951 graduating with a degree in Modern Languages, he was an elected member of the Phi Sigma Iota, National Romance Language fraternity, and he served in the military from 1951 to 1954. After the service, Duane joined Corning Glass Works in the International Division with a 42 year career including the Export Sales Department in New York City from 1954 to 1965, Managing Director of Corning's subsidiary in Mexico from 1965 to 1967, and in Corning from 1967 until his retirement in 1996. He held various positions in the International Division's Latin America/Asia-Pacific region from 1967 to 1986. Before retiring, he was Director of Strategic Planning for the Information Group from 1988 to 1996. After retiring, he consulted for Corning from 1996 to 1999. Duane served on the Board of Directors of the Corning Retirees Group from 1999 to 2000 and since 1975, he has been active in the Big Flats Presbyterian Church.</p><p>He is survived by his wife, June of Big Flats, son, Craig Welch of Eldersburg, Maryland, granddaughters, Rebecca Thompson (Welch), Haley Welch, and Casey Welch, very close friend, William Liguori of Bath. Duane was predeceased by his father, William Ray Welch in 1956 and his mother Vera M. Welch in 1976.</p><p>Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A celebration of Duane's life will take place on Thursday at 10:00 am at Big Flats Presbyterian Church, 95 Main Street, Big Flats.
