MARQUETTE, MI – Lois Jean Paquet, age 80, of Marquette, entered eternal life, Thursday, February 28, 2019, shortly after admittance to UP Health System – Marquette. Born October 2, 1938, in Marquette, a daughter of Ellsworth and Leona (DeRocher) Racine, Lois was raised in Marquette and graduated from Graveraet High School. In September 1956, Lois began a 47 ½ year career with the Social Security Administration, a distinguished career in which she received state and national recognition for her many years of service. She retired in April 2004. In 1995, Lois, as Assistant District Manager of the Marquette Social Security Office, received the Social Security National Management Association’s Public Service Award. The award, presented in San Francisco, was in recognition of her many years of volunteer community service, which benefited senior citizens, children, persons with disabilities, and disadvantaged individuals. Lois was eligible for the national honor by first being awarded the Social Security Regional Management Association’s Public Service Award for the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Throughout the years, Lois was actively involved with the Marquette County Commission on Aging, Marquette County Transportation Board, Marquette County Emergency Task Force, Marquette-Alger Special Olympics, Warm U.P.-Marquette County, Camp Sunny Skies, Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan, and Marquette 4th of July Committee. Lois and her husband, Paul Dennis Paquet, were married for over 60 years and purchased their home in 1964, where they resided for 55 years. Lois is survived by her husband, Paul Dennis Paquet, whom she married January 3, 1959; three sons, Stephen P. Paquet; Timothy A. (Janette) Paquet, and David J. (Linda) Paquet; former daughter-in-law, Allison Paquet; her grandchildren, Brittany, Zane, Logan, McKaela, Janelle, Lucas, Josh, Jordan, and Jake; four great-grandchildren, Aden, Lileigh, Ezra, and Noah; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sharon Lakenen; and brother, John (JR) Racine. Friends may call at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Wednesday, March 6, beginning at 2:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm. Rev. Greg Heikkala will officiate. A reception will follow in the reception room located at the funeral home.
