Carol Amy Viola Nott Obituary

CAROL AMY VIOLA NOTT April 7, 1932-March 20, 2025 Born to Swedish-immigrant parents, Carol Amy Viola Nott (nee Edholm) came into this world on April 7, 1932, in Cokato, Minnesota. She passed away on March 20, 2025, in Bakersfield, California. Her life was one of kindness, diligence, and generosity, as she possessed an unwavering faith in the Lord that guided her decisions. Carols father was a builder, so the Edholm family moved around the country during her youth while he helped set up military bases. They eventually settled in California, where Carol graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1949. She and a close girlfriend then moved down south and took classes (including surfing) at Santa Monica College. Back in Bakersfield in the fall of 1950, Carol met Genevieve Nott in secretarial school. Genevieve then introduced her to her brother Charles, home on leave from the Navy. Sparks flew, and the two were married in September 1951. It was a marriage that would produce four children and last almost 73 years, until Charles death in August of 2024. Carol worked as a secretary during her husbands military service, and while he was obtaining his bachelors degree and teaching credential from San Jose State University. They then moved back to Bakersfield, where Carol served as the secretary for the dean of admissions at the local community college and Charles began his lengthy career as a teacher. Once the couple started having children, the decision was made that Carol would be a stay-at-home mothera role she relished and embraced. While raising her four children, she helped out at their schools, served as a leader for Girl Scouts and Vacation Bible School, and encouraged (and chauffeured) them as they pursued their varied extra-curricular interests, like horseback riding, soccer, swimming, cheerleading, coin collecting, skating, and art classes. Carol also made sure that church, faith, and prayer were an integral part of family life. She and her husband encouraged doing for others, leading by example. The Nott children regularly accompanied their folks to volunteer at places like the Bakersfield Rescue Mission. The ultimate organizer and planner over the years, Carol balanced the family checkbook to the penny, prepared (and participated in) numerous Bible studies, and coordinated family vacations including annual summer camping trips and a six-week jaunt through Europe in a crowded Volkswagen van that would surely have been a disaster without her forethought. Carol and Charles spent their golden years exploring a variety of interests together, from learning about--and designingbonsai trees to going on long motorcycle trips with other couples. They delighted in moments together and time with family. She is survived by her children Susan Seals, Nancy Horn, Ann Ramsey (John), and David Nott (Ryan Farr); her grandchildren Michelle Wiley (David), Ryan Seals (Roxanne), Garrett Horn, Linnea Perez (Aaron), Elizabeth Cardenas (Richard), Sean Ramsey (Marly), and Andrew, Lucy, and Carter Nott; and her great-grandchildren Hannah and Russell Seals, Jackson Lehr, Charlotte Cardenas, Mina Ramsey, and Aubrey and Bridgette Perez. A private service was held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, where Carol was buried next to her beloved husband.
