Obituary
Lowell Edward Giles was born in Athens, Texas on February 20, 1937, to Erbie and Jettie (Lambright) Giles and was called home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2025. He lived in the Carroll Springs area until he joined the Navy. He returned home and found a job in Athens with Texas Power and Light. Later, he was transferred to Hamilton, Texas area. He later came home and found a job where he worked with Leslie Goerdel. Leslie had a cousin named Margaret. Incidentally, the dog approved of Lowell and thus a match was made.
Lowell and Margaret were married on November 22, 1962, in Priddy, Texas. Lowell and Margaret moved back to the Athens area, where with the Goeddel’s (Bruno and Alwine) started what was eventually St. John Lutheran Church.
Lowell was not a big “Talker”, but the stories he had, the biggest one being was of a contest between the adults and their boys to see who could hunt the best during a night of adventure. He liked to aggravate his wife with “It’s me again, Margaret after a song by Ray Stevens. Lowell’s sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Lowell is preceded in death by his wife Margaret, parents; Erbie and Jettie Giles, daughter; Sue Ann and a sister Evelyn Giles.
Survivors include his son; Lloyd (Jan); grandchildren Aimee, Josh, Lizzie, Lee Ann (Josh), Jesse (Sarah), great grandchildren; Holden, Addie, Tristan, Evan, Caleb, Olivia, Jettie and thing 2, brother; Alan.
Pallbearers are Jesse Giles, Josh Burks, Josh Disotell, Darren Sims, Richard Hart, Delwyn Sims.
Honorary pallbearers will be Holden Disotell, Caleb Powers and Alan Giles.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday April 17, 2025, from 5-7 P.M. at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday April 18, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Seth Davidson officiating. Burial will follow at Carroll-Springs Cemetery.
