Abelardo "Lalo" Arredondo Obituary

Abelardo V. “Lalo” Arredondo, 79, of Galesburg, died Saturday, February 23, 2019, 11:30 AM, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. Lalo was born February 22, 1940 in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico, the son of Gilberto and Guadalupe (Vara) Arredondo.  He married Guadalupe Interial on April 20, 1968.  In 1970 Lalo and Guadalupe moved to Galesburg.  Lalo is survived by his wife of 50 years, Guadalupe; two daughters, Norma (Patricio) Rodriguez and Sylvia Arredondo both of Galesburg; one son, Saul (Christina Encinas) Arredondo of San Tan Valley, AZ; and three grandchildren, Antonio Arredondo, Micaela Rodriguez, and Terron Miles.  Lalo is also survived by two brothers, Oscar Arredondo of Zaragoza, Mexico and Arnoldo (Ofelia) Arredondo, Del Rio, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Along with his parents, Lalo was preceded in death by one brother Jesus and two sisters, his twin, Abelina and Yolanda. After moving to Galesburg Lalo worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1985.  He was a longtime member and volunteer at the L.U.L.A.C. Club.  Lalo passed his strong work ethic on to his children.  He loved to read especially History.  Lalo enjoyed walking and socializing around his neighborhood.  He had strong family values and loved being a grandpa.  Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg with a short prayer service at 7 p.m.  Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
