Samuel "Sam" Dean McCalvin, 76, of Conyers, passed away on Thursday morning, March 20, 2025, at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Sam was the son of the late David Herbert McCalvin and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deborah Jones McCalvin.Sam lived a life full of adventure, hard work, and generosity. In his earlier years, he owned and operated a Dairy Queen, bringing joy to his community with sweet treats and warm smiles. Later, he became the proud owner and operator of Conyers Fence Company, where his dedication to craftsmanship and service shone brightly. Sams career was as diverse as his passions, including roles as a fireman, EMT, industrial maintenance worker, and industrial mechanic. He approached every endeavor with enthusiasm and a commitment to excellence.A man of many hobbies, Sam found joy in boat riding, gardening (from vegetables to flowers), and skiing, where he was an active member of the Atlanta Ski Club. He loved traveling across the United States with his family, creating cherished memories in places like Washington, DC, the Florida Keys, Philadelphia, and Niagara Falls. In his younger days, Sams adventurous spirit led him to ride his motorcycle to Panama City, where he danced on the beach under the stars. At home, he loved building cozy fires in the fireplace and tinkering with projects, always eager to fix or create something new.Sam had a big heart for animals, especially cats. Over the years, he became known as a cat rescuer, and every feline in his home was a testament to his compassion and love for animals. His kindness extended to all living beings, and his legacy of care and generosity will never be forgotten.Sam is survived by his loving wife, Elise McCalvin, Conyers; daughter and son-in-law, Samantha (John) Moon, Hampton; son and daughter-in-law, Drake (Hali) McCalvin, Conyers; granddaughters, Maci and Savannah McCalvin, Conyers; mother, Wilmoth Thomas, Conyers; brother and sister-in-law, Roy (Brenda) McCalvin, Dothan, AL; nephews, Joseph McCalvin (Kenneth Cline), Social Circle and Matthew (Jenny) McCalvin, Atlanta; step son, Matthew Boswell, Conyers; step granddaughters, Lacy Boswell, Atlanta and Jaden Pollard, Porterdale; a host of many friends. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who have the privilege of knowing him.Funeral Service for Sam will be held Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Steven Moon officiating. The burial will take place after the service at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, Conyers. The family will received friends, Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
