Gaffney -- Thomas E. Spencer, 84, of 326 Grindall Ford Road, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Cherokee Medical Center. A native of Cherokee County, he was the widower of Margaret Mullinax Spencer, the son of the late John Henry Spencer and Aggnes Mary Jane Millwood Spencer, and was a special brother. He previously worked for the SCDOT, loved hunting, fishing, and watching football. Mr. Spencer was of the Baptist faith. Surviving Mr. Spencer are three brothers, Elzie L. "Slick" Spencer, Billy Franklin "Doc" Spencer and wife, Sandra, and George M. Spencer, all of Gaffney; four sisters, Emma Louise Vaughn of Union, Betty Gean Cox of Gaffney, Sybil Ann Orr of Laurens, and Sandra Elizabeth Osment and husband, Harold, of Gaffney; and a sister-in-law, Faye Reynolds, of Gaffney. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl Erskine Spencer, a daughter, Teresa Spencer, and six brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 7th, 2019, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Gordon Mortuary of Gaffney. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM in the Gordon Mortuary of Gaffney Chapel. Interment will be at Frederick Memorial Gardens. The family will be at their respective homes.
