April 9, 1940 – March 20, 2025
It is with a deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Didur; husband, father, and grandfather, on March 20, 2025, at the Milton District Hospital.
Leonard was born in 1940, the middle son of Joe and Margaret Didur, and brother to Shirley and Nancy in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. He is predeceased by his grandparents, parents, sisters, and mother-in-law Irene Drever.
Remaining to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 63 years, Beverley, and daughters Colleen, Jill (Bart) and Wennda (Norman); his grandchildren Shayle, Theodor, Spencer and Tyler; his in-laws Gloria (George) and Greg (Nancy); and his nieces and nephews, Darlene (Jamie), Jo-Anne (Warren), Allan (Allison), Gerry (Debra), Cheryl (Shaun), Garritt, and Graydon (Kristen).
Leonard grew up in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, had a paper route, loved to fix cars, duck hunting with his dog Major, and spending time with his parents and sisters at Delta Beach. He trained as an x-ray technician but was quickly hired as a sales representative for Kodak Canada serving hospitals’ needs for x-ray film and chemicals in the prairie region. He met Beverley (née Froebe)--who was working as a registered nurse in Selkirk General Hospital--and they married at Knox United Church in Winnipeg on March 5, 1962. They settled in Winnipeg where their three daughters were born and spent wonderful times at the family cottage he built with Bev at Bird Lake, and with extended family in Portage, Winnipeg, Carman, and Delta Beach.
Leonard’s job with Kodak took his family to live in London, Ontario for three years in the late 70s, and then Hornby/Milton, Ontario where he worked at Kodak’s Toronto head office in the Health Sciences Division until his retirement in 2001. Len worked with others to create the KODA Retirees Association (KRA/ARK) to monitor and protect employee pensions after Kodak Canada closed in 2004. Leonard loved to travel and took his family on a first trip to Europe for skiing in the late 70s, and then on many other trips to Europe, the US, Hong Kong, and Barbados with family and friends. In recent years he stuck close to their country home with Bev and enjoyed time with his daughters’ families and their labrador retrievers, Phoenix and Ruby-Rouge.
Our sincere thanks are extended to the doctors, nurses and staff at Milton District Hospital for caring for Leonard in his last days. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Leonard’s memory to Sunshine Therapy Dogs https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/sunshine-therapy-dogs/ or to the Milton District Hospital Foundation https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-milton-district-hospital-foundation/, where Leonard served on the MDH Board of Directors in the 90's.
A Celebration of Leonard Didur’s Life Memorial Service will be held at Hillcrest United Church, 8958 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, Ontario L7G 4S5 on Saturday April 19, 2025, beginning at 4:00 pm. A reception will be held following the Service. The Graveside Committal Service for the interment of the urn will take place in the family plot, which is located at the Bethel United Church Cemetery, 6150 Trafalgar Road in Milton, at 6:30pm.
