Donald J. Campbell Obituary

Donald James Campbell, 86, of Hamilton, MA passed away peacefully Monday February 11, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was the cherished and devoted husband of Martha (Lawler) Campbell for nearly 59 years. Donnie lived in Hamilton for the last 26 years, but he was born, raised and lived in Beverly, MA before that. He was the devoted son of the late Charles Angus Campbell and Gertrude (Connolly) Campbell of Beverly. Don was a graduate of the Beverly High School Class of 1950. He worked as a photographer at the United Shoe in Beverly for 35 years, before later starting his own photography company, Industrial Photo Services. An honorably discharged veteran, he served in the United States Coast Guard for four years in the early 1950s. Don was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was a voracious reader, and a great follower of news, current events, history and politics. He enjoyed classical music and was a BSO season subscriber for years. Don was able to travel extensively in the US and abroad. He enjoyed his yard and gardens and lovingly tended his tomato plants each summer. One of his greatest joys in life was to be outside walking his dog each morning, regardless of the weather Above all else, Donnie was a husband and a father and grandfather. His family was his life. Those close to him cherished the stability, love and humor he provided and never took it for granted. Don was patient and kind and peaceful and strong and he was always willing to go the extra mile. He was without fail the perfect gentleman, indeed he was truly a gentle man. Surviving him in addition to his wife Martha is daughter Jennifer Campbell of Saunderstown, RI, son Timothy Campbell of Hamilton, MA, son Dennis Campbell and his wife Rebecca of Saunderstown, RI and their three children Dempsey, Braeden and Reese, faithful friend and beloved pup Bailey, brothers-in-law Thomas Lawler and his wife Carolyn of Essex, MA and Peter Lawler and his wife Sharon of Lexington, many relatives and friends but notably nieces Janet Kelley Gjesteby of Winchester, MA, Carolyn Kelley Shea of Lynnfield, MA and Brenda Kelley Wolter of Washington DC, and dear friend Kathleen Pszenny of St. Petersburg, FL. At the request of the deceased, funeral services are private.
