James Wm. "Red" Reed Obituary

James Wm. "Red" Reed, age 88, of Pearcy, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, February 11, 2019. He was born on March 8, 1930, in St. Louis County, Missouri, the son of William Floyd Reed and Edith Gladine Young Reed. On June 30, 1957, he married Marlene Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Jo Ann Watts. James was a member of Legacy Church where he was a member of the Gleanors Sunday School class and served for many years as an usher and Royal Ranger leader. He also served in the bus ministry and taught Sunday school for many years. He worked for many years for Dewey Cook Scrap and Metal Company. He enjoyed traveling all over the country but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He was known as a great joke teller and he loved to play jokes on family and friends. He was also known as the "Mayor" of Lake Hamilton Health and Rehab and was always eager to assist the residents and staff. James is survived by his wife, Marlene Reed of Pearcy; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald W. and Cindy Reed of Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna and T.G. Hightower of Royal and Ronda Wetherington of Pearcy; five grandchildren, Nicholas and Tessa Reed, Jordan and Holli Hightower, Stephany and John Stokes, Tyler and Ashley Reed and Tabitha Hightower and her fiance, Mac Irvin; six great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Stokes, Elle Reed, Eli Reed, Kylee Stokes, Landon Hightower and Shelby Stokes; one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Ira Henry of San Marcos, California; nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 16, 2019, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Rev. Larry Burton and Rev. Windel Magar officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday evening. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Reed, Tyler Reed, Jordan Hightower, Mac Irvin, Larry White, John Stokes and Kyle Outler. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Ursery, James Bay, Gary Meek, David Buck, the members of Gleanors Sunday School class and the staff of Lake Hamilton Health and Rehab. The family would like to thank the staff of Lake Hamilton Health and Rehab for the special care that was given to James and his family.
