Roger John Walch Obituary

Roger John Walch of Addison, MI went to be with his Lord on Monday, Feb. 11th, 2019 at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents Mathias and Mary Walch, his wife, LeFerna, and his son, Destin. He is survived by his children Robin (Gary) Sparkman, Matt (Susie) Walch, Nicole Walch, Opal Stone, and step-son Travis (Lisa) Phillips, sister Mary Beth (Ernie) Garant, brother Richard (Marilyn) Walch, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Roger was born in Detroit, MI and lived in and around Addison his entire life. He had many jobs in his younger years and loved to tell stories of some of the crazy events that took place – he was a great story teller. He started working with his father in the electrical trade at a young age, under the name “Matt’s Electric”, and later taught his own son the trade under the name “Walch and Son’s Electric”. He was an entrepreneur as well, owning a successful clothing liquidation business, and designing products like the Roma-Cart. He held a commercial pilot’s license, and flew many planes over the years including an ultralight (had a close call in one of those flights due to a paint chip in the fuel filter), to a Cessna 185 on floats, which was his favorite airplane. He enjoyed taking his kids on many rides and making cross country trips as far away as Fairbanks, Alaska. He was an amazing woodworker and overall craftsman, loved to garden, rescue wild animals, fish, water ski, sing, play card games, spend time at the cabin “Up North”, grill, take mule rides with his grandson, and listen to Big Band, and Old Country music. He learned to appreciate antique rifles and believed his greatest talent was gunsmithing, which he enjoyed very much. As long as he was in good health, he enjoyed putting in a good day’s work and relaxing in his recliner in the evening. He was loved and will be missed by family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019, at St. Mary On The Lake Catholic Church, 450 Manitou Road, Manitou Beach, MI., with Fr. Todd Koenigsknecht officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church following the service. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison.
