John Overturf

John E. Overturf, Jr. was born on January 23, 1947 in Dallas, TX to John E. Overturf, Sr. and Christine Fazzio Overturf. He passed away in Athens, TX on February 11, 2019. John was a veteran of the United States Army and served as a Chaplain’s assistant, a position he was very proud of. Mr. Overturf received his bachelor’s degree from North Texas State University and then completed his Masters of Education at Texas Women’s University. He then embarked on a lengthy teaching career where he loved his students and they loved him in return. He enjoyed both water skiing and snow skiing, golfing, playing guitar, and horses. John was also a very active member of Sand Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Overturf is survived by his loving wife Linda, son, Omar Overturf, daughter, Olivia Overturf, grandson, Milo Garcia, sister, Connie Werchan, aunt, Dorothy Mason, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial Service will be 2pm, Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Sand Springs Baptist Church in Athens with Bro. Erick Graham and Bro. Jerry Truett officiating. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Ministry at Sand Springs Baptist Church.
