Lois Lorene (Sampels) Stacy Bend, Oregon Obituary

Lois Lorene (Sampels) Stacy

Lois Lorene Sampels Stacy, 87, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on January 14, 2017. Lois was born at St Charles Hospital in Bend, Oregon on May 26, 1929, to Mervin and Lena Sampels, the oldest of four children. She attended school at Kenwood School, and later the Brooks Scanlon logging camp, where her father and several uncles worked. She had fond memories of logging camp adventures with her sister, Iris, and brothers, Merlyn and Delton, and numerous Sampels cousins. When her father began working in town at the railroad, he built the family home on land where the DMV now stands, and the kids attended Allen School and Bend High School. Just before her senior year, the family relocated to Springfield, where she graduated from high school in 1948. She met her husband, Floyd, at the home of a friend. As Floyd played the piano, a group gathered around to sing. He was struck by the sound of a beautiful soprano voice, turned around to find that the girl singing was as beautiful as her voice, and their love story of 68 years began. Lois and Floyd were married October 15, 1949, in Springfield, Oregon, and had two sons, Donald Scott Stacy and Gregory Dale Stacy. Since Lois's sister married Floyd's brother, Lois was a well-loved second mom to Iris and Scott's children as well. Lois was a full-time homemaker for many years in San Jose and Bakersfield, California, then worked alongside Floyd when they owned a restaurant in Livermore, California, and finally until they retired, assisted him in the real estate business at Coldwell Banker in Bend, Oregon. She was especially happy when working in her yard, and was also quite talented at refinishing antique furniture and making wreaths from beautiful items she found while outdoors. She enjoyed collecting dolls, the trips she and Floyd took during their retirement years, traveling extensively throughout the lower 48 states and four trips to Alaska in their RV. The highlight of their travels was a trip to the Holy Land. Lois was preceded in death by both parents; her brother Delton; and her son Greg. She is survived by her best friend and husband, Floyd; her son, Don (Kath); two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Iris (Scott), brother Merlyn (Anita), brother-in-law Ed (Glenda), four nieces and five nephews. A service will be held on Friday January 20th, 2017, at 11:00AM, at Foundry Church in Bend. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Partners in Care of Bend or The Shepherd's House, as Lois had great compassion for those who need a helping hand.
