Rodney "Rod" Bixby, (68), of Elgin, IL., passed away on Nov. 9, 2018.
Rod was born in Danville, IL to James and Naomi Bixby on Sept. 29, 1950. After 4 years of football at Paxton High School, Rod attended Western Illinois University where he continued his love of the game as a middle line-backer. Rod served as co-captain of the team and set a record for most career tackles, which he held for 12 years.
For 31 years, until his retirement from Elgin District U46 in 2005, Rod taught physical education and drivers education. He coached football for over 20 years and finished his career as head golf coach at Bartlett High School.
Rod is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ruth York, and half brothers, Donald and Jim Bixby.
He is survived by his college sweetheart and wife of 45 years, Charlotte; son, Brett (Eryca); daughter, Brynn (Mark); brothers, Robert (Joan) Bixby, and Roger (Arlene) Bixby; grandchildren Bella, Nick, and Alex, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Rods life will be held Saturday November 17th at Bowes Creek Country Club of 1250 Bowes Creek Boulevard, Elgin, IL. Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm, followed by a memorial service. Richard Carlson of First United Methodist Church of Elgin, will officiate.
