Joan R. Messner

Joan R. Messner, 81, of Palmer Township, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at her home. Born October 8, 1935 in Palmerton, PA, she was a daughter of the late Robert J. and Alma M. Miller DeLong. Her husband of 39 years, Thomas L. Messner, died February 19, 2009. Joan graduated from Palmerton High School and was a 1956 graduate of St. Luke's Nursing School. She retired as a nurse from Jersey Shore Hospital, Jersey Shore, PA. Prior to that, she was employed by the VA Hospital in Philadelphia. Joan enjoyed playing cards, walking at the mall, traveling and going out to lunch with friends. She attended New Creation United Church of Christ. Surviving are a sister, Sally A. Beers, of Palmer Township, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Betty J. Mertz. A memorial service will be held at 11am Thursday in the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., 2101 Northampton Street, Wilson Borough. Call Thursday 10-11am in the funeral home. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Offer online condolences at www.strunkfh.com.
