Hilda C. Coleman, 101, of Modena N.Y., died peacefully at home on December 21, 2018. She was born February 2, 1917, to John A. Smith and Edith Paltridge of Modena. She graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1938 and worked as a Registered Nurse for many years, most notably at St. Luke’s and as an Ulster County Public Health Nurse. She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. John Mastromarino, who died overseas serving during World War II, and her second husband, Augustus Coleman, who also served in World War II, and who died in 2006 after over 60 years of marriage. She is survived by a niece, Valerie Smith, at home, another niece, Genevieve Varela of Modena, and many other nieces and nephews related by blood or simply love. She lived a full life, enjoying traveling, reading, church, socializing, and pampering her cats. She was a member of the Plattekill Historical Preservation Society and the Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made to those organizations, or to the Plattekill Public Library, Modena Fire & Rescue, or Hospice. A memorial service will be held later in the spring.
